HYDERABAD: A Hindu namely Rejhumal and his family were forcibly dispossessed of their house and allegedly subjected to torture in Umerkot on Saturday.
The affected family along with other members of the community staged a protest in order to get their voice heard.
Rejhumal speaking at the occassion said he was at his home along with his family when, at midnight, four armed men and two women barged into his house located newar Gulab Chowk. “They tortured male and female family members and robbed money, gold, laptop and camera,” alleged Rejhumal adding his family was illegally rendered homeless by the culprits.
He accused Abdul Rehman Junejo, a school teacher, of leading the robbers.
He also accused police of not taking action against the accused party.
However, police say the protestors did not ask them to register any FIR in the night. “They were asked to come to the police station at 6:00 pm today to register the case but they came on day time when we were busy in court matters,” said the city SHO. He said all the grievances of the community will be addressed.
Protestors led by Rejhumal carrying banners and placards marched from Thar Bazzar to local press club. They were chanting slogans in favour of the affected family. They also burnt tyres and observed sit-in at Allah Wala Chowk Umerkot.
The protestors urged the higher authorities to take notice of their plight. They demanded a case be registered against the accused and their house be handed over to them.
